Meta Platforms (META)
Australia Youth Ban: Meta announced it has blocked approximately 550,000 accounts in Australia during the initial phase of the country's social media ban for minors. Under the law effective since last December, platforms like Instagram and Facebook must prohibit accounts for users under 16.
Support & Debate: While supported by the Australian government for child protection, Meta and some experts argue for alternative safety measures instead of a total ban.
The Numbers: In the first week, 330,639 accounts were blocked on Instagram, 173,497 on Facebook, and 39,916 on Threads.
